iPhone users warned about the ‘1GB rule’ that could be killing your phone speed

iPhone users warned about the ‘1GB rule’ that could be killing your phone speed

Time to clear out the photos and videos.

If your iPhone is running slower than usual - and you're definitely on top of cybersecurity - then it's time to look into it.

The first thing you need to do is check your storage space.

Most users don't realise that over time apps, photos and other media eat up more and more storage space.

Before you know it, you are near full capacity and your device's performance starts to suffer.

According to tech giant Apple: 'For best performance, try to maintain at least 1GB of free space.

'If your available storage is consistently less than 1GB, your device might slow down as iOS or iPadOS repeatedly makes room for more content.'

Here's how to check your storage capacity in seconds:

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

If your storage is running low, it might be time to have a big internal clearout.

iOS will help and show you recommendations, like apps you haven't used in a while or photo duplicates (we're all guilty of taking multiple shots to nail the perfect photo).

iPhones will also show a list of apps order by how much space they take up so you can prioritise which are needed or can be scrapped for space.

Offload Unused Apps is another option to consider. It frees up space on your device by removing the app's storage – all while keeping its documents and data.

It's the device's way of automatically deleting apps that you haven't used after 12 days, but when it comes to reinstalling, you don't have to re-input your details.

If this doesn't do the trick, the lower performance might be down to other factors.

It might not even be down to the device itself but the slow Wi-Fi or poor network it's connected to.

Certain apps might be bugged also in which case force-quitting it through the app drawer could be a potential fix.

Additionally, have a look to see whether you have Low Power Mode turned on, this will be identified by a yellow battery icon, as this can limit performance also.

Finally, keep an eye on your iPhone's temperature, overcharging or frequent use of energy-consuming apps can cause lag and performance issues.
