The iPhone 16 Pro Max can charge quicker than ever but only if you do it right

Picture the scene — you are about to head out, so you grab your keys, wallet and iPhone.

You glance at your screen at realize to your horror that you forgot to charge your phone.

You only have a scant few minutes to pour as much juice into your phone as possible.

If you are lucky enough to own an iPhone 16 Pro Max, however, that might not be a problem with the iPhone 16 range, Apple are boasting a much improved battery life.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max has some of the best battery life of any smartphone currently on the market. Tests from TechRadar have shown is lasting up to an extremely impressive 16 hours.

Now some new information has emerged from ChargerLAB, who have put the iPhone 16 Pro Max through a range of tests to check on how it responds to various charging scenarios.

One of the most interesting results to emerge was regarding the new iPhone’s wired charging speeds.

The tests from ChargerLAB covered areas such as temperature when charging, reverse charging AirPods and compatibility with third-party chargers.

The most significant results came from tests which measured how much wattage the iPhone 16 Pro Max could draw.

Both Apple and third-party chargers were tested and measured, and the results showed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max could draw considerably more than its predecessor.

The previous model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max can get 24.55 W from an Apple 30W charger. By contrast the new iPhone 16 Pro Max can get 28.39 W from the same type of charger. This is a boost of roughly 15%.

If Apple’s 70W plug is used, this goes up to 30.15W, an increase of almost 21% compared to the previous model.

Curiously, there is a bit of a catch. The first hour is where most of the increase in Wattage was seen.

Since the iPhone 16 Pro Max can reach a higher peak charging wattage, it is capable of a better initial burst of charge in the first hour.

This is great news for people who just need to give their iPhone a quick boost before heading out to work, or to catch a train. An hour of boosted charging could give you enough power to get through a long journey thanks to the iPhone 16 Pro Max improved battery.

The iPhone 16 launch went hand-in-hand with the launch of iOS 18 which boasted a range of impressive AI features.
