An expert has shared a ‘game changing’ carry-on life hack and regular flyers have been left floored by the results.
This comes after Ryanair were forced to increase the size of its hand luggage allowance due to new regulations from the European Union (EU).
Previously, a free small cabin bag on a Ryanair flight needed to fit within the dimensions 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.
But now, passengers are able to make the most of a larger volume, with the size increasing to 40cm x 30cm x 20cm.

With this news, expert Tom Schott from Schott Packaging has shared how to save even more money and space with a handy trick.
Schlott said: “The new dimension is a game-changer, but only if you use it wisely.
“The mistake is to simply cram more in. The real victory for passengers is using that volume to pack with structure. A well-packed bag is a compliant bag.”

Instead, he suggested bringing a piece of cardboard with you for the journey - and for a very good reason.
Schlott continued: “Soft bags lose volume. A lightweight, snug-fitting cardboard box inside your bag provides a rigid frame, allowing you to use every corner and prevent the bulge that attracts gate staff.”
He added: “Place a small, sturdy box in the centre of your bag, cushioned by clothes.
“This creates a crush-proof zone for chargers, adapters, and toiletries, preventing damage and leaks.”

The expert went as far as to recommend that people lay out their hand luggage items in a 40cm x 30cm outline before packing them away in order to get a ‘real-world view of what fits and helps you assemble your packed modules logically and quickly’.
While that might sound like an extreme approach to packing for your summer getaway, it could end up saving you cash as airlines like Ryanair charge customers at the gate for exceeding their dimension limits.
Schlott went on to say: “These aren’t just clever tricks, but core principles of efficient packing. By applying them, you can confidently pack that extra outfit and still breeze through the boarding gate.”

Ryanair announced the baggage allowance change on social media, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to post: “yes, it’s true… our free bag size is increasing by 20% (we’ll still be watching)”
Many people responded to the tweet, with one user saying: “So it’ll be *checks notes* the same as other airlines.”
And another added: “Flight cost increases 50%.”
