People have been left in disbelief after a man took a $70,000 Tesla into a car-buying service to see how much itâs worth after just one year.
YouTuber Harley Perkins is best known for his videos about cars, vans and motorbikes, often offering his advice and tips to new drivers.
And in one clip, he decided to take his Tesla in to see how much the car had depreciated over the 12 months that he had owned it.

Making the trip to WeBuyAnyCar, which is a car buying service in the UK that purchases vehicles directly from the public, the YouTuber first explained that he had bought the Tesla Model Y a year prior.
Perkins went on to detail how the purchase had set him back a whopping ÂŁ52,000 ($70,726).
The social media influencer went on to say that he had driven less than 15,000 mile in the car so far and had spotted the same model going for around ÂŁ37,000 ($50,322) on AutoTrader.

However, much to his shock, the YouTuber was told by a representative of the car buying company that the Tesla would be worth just ÂŁ27,132 ($36,896), almost half of what he forked out a year ago for the American vehicle.
When asked about how the value had been worked out, the WeBuyAnyCar employee said that the car was rated a âGrade 2â, as âGrade 1â means that a vehicle has no chips or blemishes on it whatsoever, which Harleyâs Tesla did.
Viewers were shocked by the amount that the car was rated at, just a year after purchase.

Taking to the comments to share their views on the sobering truth, one wrote: âOver 2k a month loss, great way to lose money,â while another added on the depreciation: âF**k mate, thatâs horrendous.â
One user wrote: âWe buy any car never pays what the car's worth.â
Another agreed, adding: âThe only time you go to them is if you're in need of some quick cash. It's just another company taking advantage of people that are in need.â
Others spoke about the programme being used by the employee to value the car and its potential lack of accuracy, while some blamed the drop in worth on the fact that it was an electric car, for some reason.

However, all cars depreciate once you drive them off the lot so donât be surprised if you see a similar drop in your own wagon!
