Tesla driver shows what to do when battery is so low the car won't open

A Tesla owner demonstrates what to do when the car's battery is fully depleted, helping other owners out of a sticky situation.

If the battery is dead on your Tesla vehicle, it's basically done for. There's no chance of unlocking the door to get back inside.

A Tesla without battery power will not function, and you're left waiting to have it towed to the nearest charging station.

However, there is another way to get your Tesla back on the road, thanks to a video that cleverly demonstrated how to jumpstart the battery.

After noticing how many drained Tesla's were left at charging stations, a solution was posted on X, captioned: 'If the 12v battery is dead, you can use this technique to jumpstart the car and open the frunk, even if it's locked.

'Meaning: every Tesla stranded is a free loot box for you.'

According to the post on X, when your Tesla's battery is completely drained, it won't even be able to 'tell itself that it needs to charge.'

In the words of Jeremy Judkins who posted the video: 'Your Tesla will be bricked.'

The video shows a hole in the front of the Tesla that's 'begging to be serviced.'

Drivers can attach the positive and negative terminals of the battery jumper. When they're connected, the frunk will pop open, as demonstrated in the video.

Once drivers take off the extra cover, they will be able to see the 12V battery amongst all the other mechanical stuff under the hood.

Connect the jump starter's red positive cable to the car's red positive cable, and the black negative cable to the car's black negative cable. And voila! The Tesla will start charging, effectively jumpstarting the vehicle.

Some Tesla owners have reported their own problems with the electric vehicle batteries.

One former Tesla owner posted on TikTok that he had to pay $26,000 for a new Tesla battery because he couldn't get inside it. Ouch.

Although he considered selling the vehicle, he realised he couldn't due to the ownership papers being in the car, with no way of accessing them.

The Model S user manual from 2012-2020 warns against leaving your Tesla unplugged for too long as 'it may not be possible to charge or use Model S without jump starting or replacing the low voltage battery.'

The manual also read: 'Leaving Model S unplugged for an extended period can also result in permanent battery damage. If you are unable to charge Model S after attempting to jump-start the low voltage battery, schedule a service appointment.'
