A popular Netflix show which has had rave reviews from fans has been scrapped after just one season.

Fans of the show certainly aren’t happy after it was revealed that the popular program had been canceled.

The animated series gained an impressive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes but failed to get picked up for another season.

The Netflix show, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, was based on a series of graphic novels.

A feature film adaptation was released in 2010 starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The pair reprised their roles to voice Scott and Ramona Flowers in the animated version.

And they weren’t the only big names to make a return to the project - the show attracted a star-studded cast.

Aubrey Plaza, Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick and Kieran Culkin all joined the series to voice their roles from the original movie.

But sadly, the return of Scott Pilgrim to our screens would be short and sweet.

The creator of the comic book, Bryan Lee O’Malley, took to X, formerly Twitter, to break the news to fans that the show would end after season one.

He said: “It’s been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out. It was an honour to work with all of the cast and staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day.

“From the moment Ben David Grabinski sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle. Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return.

“As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope.”

Previously speaking to Rolling Stone, the creator had revealed that it would take ‘50 different miracles’ to make a second season happen on the streaming service.

He went on to say: “I don’t make any plans in general. Maybe some day one of us will text each other an idea that’s really great for a season two.”

It’s safe to say that fans weren’t best pleased by the news.

Taking to social media, one user wrote: “Ah, it was such a great show and the fact you pretty much got the entire cast back to voice their characters was a remarkable feat.”

Another said: “Ty for bringing the show to life!! I've been a Scott Pilgrim fan for years but seeing the characters finally move lively in animated form really cemented the importance of SP to me.”

A third person wrote: “One of the best Scott Pilgrim media in years, and they scrap it.”

And a fourth added: “maaan I’m so satisfied. This is enough. The fact that we got the ENTIRE ORIGINAL CAST???! SP fans won already.”
