Netflix kills major feature for millions of users as subscribers rage against the streaming giant

It looks like casting from you phone could now be a thing of the past

Netflix has killed a major feature for millions of users and subscribers are now raging against the streaming giant.

This comes after the streaming service announced that users will no longer be able to cast TV shows or films from their phones to a TV screen.

On the Netflix website, it details how the platform ‘no longer supports casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and TV-streaming devices’.

It seems that subscribers began to notice the update from last month, with some people reporting having lost the feature ‘with zero warning’.

The availability to cast from your Netflix phone app is still available on older Chromecast devices that support Google Cast.

This is according to the Netflix support page, however, this will come at a cost as this option is only accessible to subscribers who pay for the more expensive ad-free plans, starting at $17.99 a month.

While it is not clear why the casting feature is being removed from the streaming service, some users have speculated that this might be a way to crack down on people sharing their accounts with others as casting could be a way to get around Netflix’s one household per account rules.

Many unhappy subscribers have taken to social media to share their own reactions to the news, with one user writing on Reddit: “For literally what purpose though? You can't tell me that casting was some huge problem at Netflix that needed to be corrected, don't you have literally anything else to do?”

Another said: “This sucks for travelling. I don't want to type my account credentials into a random hotel room TV.”

A third person joked: “Does anyone else remember when the internet was fun?”

And a fourth added: “This sucks for travelling. I don't want to type my account credentials into a random hotel room TV.”

In other Netflix news, the platform is set to stream the upcoming Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight live for fans.

This comes after the YouTuber-turned-boxer appeared on Netflix during his successful fight against former champion Mike Tyson.

The Paul vs Joshua fight will take place on December 19 in Miami, Florida, although there have been claims that the event has been fixed.

This has been denied by chairperson of Matchroom Sport Eddie Hearn, who said: “It’s completely illegal. It’s a sanctioned fight where people can place bets on the fight. It’s completely illegal to have any kind of script.”
