HBO Max has dropped the second trailer for The Last of Us Season Two and fans on X are going wild.

Based on the beloved video game series by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us first captured the hearts of PlayStation 3 gamers back in 2013.

Set in a world ravaged by a fungal-based virus called Cordyceps - which turns those infected into zombie-like creatures - the game quickly became a best-seller and a cultural phenomenon.

The first season of the TV adaptation follows the journey of two strangers, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), with the hope of bringing back mankind.

Over time, the duo become like father and daughter as they try to navigate and survive the post-apocalyptic United States, battling the gruesome creatures along the way. Check out the trailer below:

The first trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 was released in September 2024 but the hype-train shows no sign of dying down.

And why should it?

The wildly popular TV show was watched by almost 40 million viewers within two months of its premiere.

It quickly became a smash hit and averaged almost 32 million viewers per episode, making it HBO's most-watched debut season.

Now, fans are gearing up for Season Two, which is set to premiere in April 2025.

HBO and Max (separate X profiles) shared the second teaser trailer yesterday (January 7) on social media with huge names like Sony and Naughty Dog following suit. The story picks up five years after the events of Season One, and if the trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

A lot of fans are responding to the viral posts saying that they're "NOT READY" alongside heartbroken emojis and someone else said: "Im not emotionally stable enough for this."

Others are certainly psyched writing: "Soo excited" and "cannot wait".

One other fan added: "Jesus this looks REALLY good . The ppl the ppl they didn’t play the game are in for a ride !"

With one of the trailers officially captioned: "You'll never guess what happens next" from HBO Max, we'll have to keep our emotions under control for another four months.

While we count down the days, you can rewatch Season One of The Last of Us on HBO Max to refresh your memory.

And for gamers, it’s the perfect excuse to revisit the legendary The Last of Us: Part 1 and Part 2, available now on PS5 and PC.
