Cutting your nails is something that everybody has to do every once in a while, and whether you opt for the traditional scissors and clippers or have a bad habit of biting them off, it still reaches the same end point.
There are plenty of people around the world that do like to grow them out as much as possible though, but even super long nails need to be trimmed down at some point.
What exactly would happen if you ignored your nails for as long as possible and let them continue growing beyond any reasonable point? Fortunately, one gruesome simulation on YouTube has shown exactly that, and it will probably scare you away from ever growing your nails out again.

Simulation king Zack D. Films is known for his horrifying recreations, having previously shown what happens to your body when you die and the dangers that would crop up if the world stopped spinning.
He has recently uploaded what is unexpectedly one of his most revolting short videos though, as it runs through exactly what would happen to your nails and your body if you were to let them grow for as long as possible.
Currently, the record for the world's longest nails (male) is held by Vietnamese artist Lưu Công Huyền, who spent 34 years growing his fingernails to over 19 feet (5.79 meters) in length, whereas the longest for a woman belongs to Diana Armstrong, who has nails stretching over 13.06 meters (42 feet 10 inches) in total.

That doesn't come without its downsides though, as the simulation reveals. One of the first things you'd notice is that your nails would start to grow into your skin as the tissue underneath them becomes thicker.
Expectedly, this would be incredibly painful, and is just the beginning of what is an all around horrible experience. When your nails reach a certain length they start to become much weaker, and can break off easily if brushed against anything hard.

This causes sharp edges to form at the end of your nails, and if your skin or anyone else happens to come in contact it can easily cause painful cuts and other sores.

What's more, the length of your nails would allow dirt and bacteria to be easily collected, leading to fungal infections and horrible smells. Don't blame your friends if they stop wanting to hang out.
Eventually you'll reach a point when you simply can't use your hands anymore, so you'd better hope that you have someone willing to help you chop off your nails, as otherwise you'd be in for a bad time.
