A Google employee seems to have hit the jackpot and makes a fortune by “doing nothing”.

Amit Agarwal is a developer and he cashes in a whopping $1,083,333 every month but spends his time making memories with his family.

Investigating his story, YouTuber Namanh Kapur (@namanhkapur) delves deeper into how Agarwal makes his money and what exactly his job role is.

In the clip, Kapur explains: “After working his first and only corporate job, Agarwal creates a public-facing brand, a website on the world wide web and that's how his blog Digital Inspiration is born in 2004.

“Amit publishes his first blog post ever a review on an HP printer he's recently bought and suddenly the article is getting views.”

How did his career start?

Viewership numbers for his blog skyrocket over the year and Agarwal began to make money from AdSense off the blog, which sparked his connection with Google.

Kapur goes on to say: “He becomes an outspoken supporter of AdSense, tweeting about it, writing how-to articles and even submitting a video to the story contest. He doesn't end up winning but gets an honorable mention on the official Google Blog.”

While working as a software developer, Agarwal does side projects, creating plugins for websites and add ons, including Twitter assistants.

How does he make his millions?

Kapur continued: “Over the last 20 years he's built 13 Google workplace plugins that have collectively been downloaded over 50 million times.”

One of these plugins is Mail Merge, which integrated with Gmail.

Agarwal’s love for the tech giant seems to blend into his personal life as revealed that he even nicknamed his eldest child “Google”.

Kapur concludes his video by saying: “That's Amit’s story - the man, the myth, the legend.

“He did what he loved surrounded by those who loved him and there's no better way to end this story than in his own words, ‘In between all the work, few cups of coffee hush and rush, I still managed to capture a few moments, happy memories.”

In the YouTube comment section, people shared their thoughts on Agarwal’s incredible story, with one user writing: “I think we all want to be like Amit!”

A second wrote: “More than a software engineer, he is a product god. To envision these small apps and its usefulness takes a creative mind.”

A third said: “This is the kind of content that needs to be pushed out more to the public.”

And a fourth added: “Why is there not a single movie made about the legend?”
