ChatGPT on WhatsApp gets upgrade that can now see, hear, and remember your conversations from elsewhere

Anyone who uses ChatGPT via WhatsApp is in luck, as parent company OpenAI has announced new upgrades that let you communicate with the artificial intelligence chatbot without even typing.

ChatGPT has exploded in popularity since its release in 2022, and is now used by an estimated 100,000,000 users monthly for various queries, countless tasks, or simply just a conversation.

While most utilize the AI software via the official app or webpage, there's actually an integration into WhatsApp that gives prospective users a taste of the action without having to fully commit to the app itself.

To do this, you simply need to send a message to the number '1-800-CHATGPT' in WhatsApp, and it'll start a conversation without you having to download anything else or even create an account.

Previously there were a number of restrictions that gave this portal within WhatsApp a fraction of the main app's capabilities, but a new update from OpenAI has significantly improved how you're able to communicate with the AI, as reported by TechRadar.

Now you're able to send images or voice notes to the ChatGPT number and it'll either respond to them or use them to complete a task, like translating a sign in a foreign language or transcribing what's said in the voice note.

This not only frees you up from the frustrations of having to type out a super long message, but also gives you a number of different options to explore that you'd otherwise have to go into the app to complete.

On top of this, the introduction of account linking now allows ChatGPT to remember your previous WhatsApp conversations to avoid having to repeat yourself or follow up on previous queries or topics.

It's also doing away with the incredibly restrictive 15-minute monthly limit for ChatGPT calls, which you can now avoid by linking either your free or Pro account to WhatsApp.

If you already spend a lot of time on WhatsApp chatting to your friends and family, then this makes accessing ChatGPT for a quick question a whole lot easier than having to back all the way out - it'll be like asking a friend who has all the answers you need.

You needn't worry about downloading your friends voice notes to send over to ChatGPT for transcription though, as WhatsApp already has that feature built in to make the process of replying a lot easier.

There's nothing worse than being landed with a 6+ minute voice message that could otherwise be read in a fraction of the time, and it's even helpful when replying as who can remember what was said four topic changes beforehand.
