If you've been on social media at all in the past few days you've likely seen the controversy surrounding young social media star Tay "Lil Tay" Tian joining adult content website OnlyFans immediately after turning 18, but many have now started to question whether she's as old as she claims to be.
Bursting on to the social media scene at (apparently) just nine years old, Lil Tay immediately grabbed people's attention with her boastful personality as she flexed her wealth and luxurious life.
She has managed to gain over 600,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel through a mixture of vlogs, challenge videos, and even her own music, and has continued the attention-drawing act across her accounts on other platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.
While it might not be the wildest controversy that she has been involved in considering she was part of a death hoax just a few years ago, Lil Tay recently shocked the internet by deciding to launch her OnlyFans account as soon as she turned 18.

While the move has allowed her to earn a staggering amount of money just hours after the account went live, it hasn't come without pushback from the internet at large and even members of her own family.
She could find herself in significant trouble if new claims are to be believed though, as many are speculating that Lil Tay isn't 18, and is instead far younger.
Why do people think that Lil Tay is younger?
As reported by LADbible, speculation surrounding Lil Tay's age appears to source from her own previous claims, with her allegedly writing that she's only 14 years old as recent as last year.

Voló on X shared two recent screenshots from Lil Tay that back this up, writing: "Lil Tay was claiming to be 14 in 2024. So that means.. she's 15-16 with an OF?"
In the screenshots you can see Lil Tay write "I'm 14" both times, with one stating that "Google is wrong" in response to someone searching for her age on the internet.
Additionally, she previously claimed to be just nine years old in 2018, and the aforementioned death hoax remarked that she had 'died' at 14 years of age in 2023, so there appears to be a number of different claims that don't all line up.

Google, FamousBirthdays, and Wikipedia all have her birthday down as July 29, 2007, making her 18 years and 8 days old at the time of writing, but there would be some incredibly serious ramifications if this wasn't the case.
Not only would Tay herself be potentially subject to claims that she distributed pornographic content involving a child (even though that is herself), but everyone who subscribed to her adult account would hypothetically come into question too. Additionally, OnlyFans would likely be in legal trouble for hosting the content on its website.
How true are the claims surrounding Lil Tay's age?
There's no way to know for sure exactly how old Lil Tay is without gaining access to confidential and sensitive information, but OnlyFans' lengthy and strict application process for signing up almost guarantees that she is over the age of 18 in some capacity.

In order to pass OnlyFans' age and identification verification process, prospective users need to hand over the following information which is then reviewed by staff:
- Full name
- Verified email address
- Postal address
- Date of birth
- Valid government ID
- Standalone selfie
- Selfie while holding their photo ID

Several of these would have official confirmation of Tay's actual date of birth and official age, confirming that she is over 18 when the account went live, so it's far more likely that previous claims from herself regarding her age were false.
