People think mortifying Instagram update will end relationships as it exposes users' 'secrets'

Your followers will be able to see your activity on the social media platform

People are worried that a new mortifying Instagram update will end relationships as it will expose some ‘secrets’ of its users.

For anyone who has been around since the dawn of Instagram will remember a tab that showed you posts people you followed had liked.

Well, it looks like something similar is back and many fear it could spell the end of a lot of relationships.

The social media platform has revealed that there will soon be a feed for Reels that will show you every Reel that your followers have liked.

Instagram said that this new feature will be rolled out to a ‘handful’ of countries with ‘more to come soon’.

If you’re wondering whether it has been added to your device then head to the app and check to see if there is a new icon at the bottom left of the screen in Reels.

If your friends have liked it then you’ll see their profile picture with a heart icon.

According to Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, the move is to make people ‘connect’ more on the app.

He said: “We want Instagram to not only be a place where you consume entertaining content, but one where you connect over that content with friends.

“Now, when you go to the Reels tab, you’ll see a dedicated feed of reels your friends have liked or added a note to in the top right and start a conversation with them right there.

“We’re rolling this out in a handful of countries to start, more to come soon.”

Not everyone is pleased with the update, with one user taking to social media to write: “Oh this is gonna end a lot of relationships.”

Another said: “This feels kind of intrusive and honestly unwanted. People are being so clear about what they want from this app and no one ever listens.”

And a third person added: “So, stop liking reels so people stay out my business. Got it.”

This isn’t the first change in recent months that has been controversial for Instagram after they announced that they were moving away from their iconic square grid layout.

And now this latest update has had a mixed reaction.

Instagram has gone in the opposite direction to X, formerly Twitter, who deleted their likes tab in 2024 to give users more privacy over their activity on the platform.

Although, that was also a controversial move, with some claiming that it would hinder accountability on the app.
