The Facebook icon mysteriously changed overnight and it’s left some users pretty upset with the 'aggressive' new look.

We’re all familiar with the blue and white Facebook logo, which has changed minimally over the years.

In fact, the tweaks to the logo have been so minor since 2005 that any change at all would be glaringly obvious.

So, people were understandably shocked when they woke up to find out that the social media platform has got a whole new look.

The icon on the homescreen was a completely different color scheme, displaying a much darker image.

The app now has a black background with a dark blue “F”.

Not everyone is pleased with the redesign and some have theories that it might have not been intentional.

So far, the new logo is only available to view on iOS and some users suspect that it might have occurred due to a bug.

Taking to Reddit, one person wrote: “What’s wrong with the Facebook logo? The colour has become weird with the latest version. I’ve deleted and reinstalled it twice. Still hasn’t fixed issue.”

Another added: “It’s annoying. at a glance I think it's an app waiting to be installed/installing.”

Over on X, formerly Twitter, another person said: “The new logo for the Facebook app is not very demure but very irritating.”

A fourth user posted: “How long until the new Facebook app logo doesn’t hurt my brain?”

A fifth questioned: “Why has my Facebook app logo turned black?”

And a sixth person added: “Facebook logo…why so aggressive?”

Some people have been speculating as to whether this has something to do with the upcoming iPhone launch next month.

Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 16 on September 9, as well as beginning to roll out the iOS 18 upgrade.

Although, other users believe that the logo is simply stuck “in inverted mode”.

That being said, there might be very good reason why the logo has changed suddenly overnight and some reckon that it’s down to a marketing stunt.

It wouldn’t be the first time apps have tried this, with just this week, Duolingo switched up their own app icon.

The iconic green owl gave off a sickly appearance that sparked a response from fans, with some describing it as 'disgusting' and others claiming that it caused them to have a 'panic attack'.

The truth behind Facebook’s sudden logo change still remains a mystery for now.
