Elon Musk trolls Meta's worldwide Facebook and Instagram outage

Elon Musk trolls Meta's worldwide Facebook and Instagram outage

The X owner wasted no time at all.

If you've been trying to access Facebook or any Meta-owned company in the past hour, you've probably noticed that it's not working.

That's because Meta's servers were down.

It's been logging people out of their Facebook and Instagram accounts worldwide - which means it's the perfect opportunity for tech giant rivals to poke fun at the issue.

A couple of months ago, Mark Zuckerberg poked fun at Apple at its recently launched Apple Vision Pro, deeming it too expensive for what it offers in comparison to the MetaQuest headset.

Now, it's Zuckerberg's time to take the hit.

Elon Musk trolled on his fully operational X platform: 'If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.'

With X being the other social media giant up and running at the time, commentators posted on Musk's to add to the fun.

One X user posted a picture of a technician scratching his head looking at the generators with the caption: 'A live look at the Facebook servers.'

Another tech user replied: 'Best social media playground and it’s not even close.'

Other X fans have been enjoying the Meta outage, with one writing: 'This is truly the only place we can depend on! Good on you for fighting soo hard for free speech! I’m good if FB and IG stay down!'

The outage has since become a top trending topic on X with already over 25k posts. Meta users were running into the message: 'Something went wrong. Please try again.'

Monitoring service Downdetector received more than 500,000 error reports within the day and about 76% of the problems reported by Facebook users related to trouble logging in.

Many Meta users were left wondering if they'd been hacked, or if it was just a problem on their network side, however this was definitely not the case.

Meta's Messenger users, reportedly 1.3 billion active, couldn't message or call their contacts and some found themselves locked out of their apps and Facebook accounts.

Since the outage, Meta has issued a statement addressing the problems to its users, tweeting: 'We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.'
