AI has lately been sparking fear in us about replacing our jobs or possibly its potential to drive human extinction.
And while it’s gotten scarily good at sounding real, whether that's on podcasts or slipping into YouTube videos, a new glitch has sent a fresh wave of panic across social media.
The demonic audio of OpenAI's ChatGPT went viral after one user shared their experience online.

According to The AI Page on Instagram, the AI voice of 'Sol', which is advertised to be 'savvy and relaxed,' was explaining a calculation related to download speeds.
What started off innocent turned into a crackly and distorted audio that eventually turned unintelligible and sounded like it was trying to steal your soul.
Whilst the users laughing in the background found the situation pretty hilarious, I think I speak for many hearing the distorted screeching of Sol is pure nightmare fuel.

"Some ChatGPT users are reporting a creepy glitch in the app’s voice mode. Instead of speaking normally, the AI suddenly lets out loud, distorted screeches that sound almost demonic," the post reads on Instagram. "The strange bug seems random, with some users saying it happens during regular conversations without warning. OpenAI hasn’t officially commented yet, but the glitch is quickly going viral as people share their spooky experiences online."
One user shared a full video of the moment on the r/OpenAI subreddit, saying that the Advanced Voice Mode on iOS just glitched out and suddenly 'turned into a demon' during a normal conversation.
"I’m on iOS. v1.2025.098 (14414233190). Voice mode Sol," the user shared. "Never had this before today, and it’s hilarious and terrifying."

"I thought this only happened with me, it scared the hell out of me," one user replied on Instagram.
"That was pretty damn funny (and terrifying)," another joked on Reddit.
"I can't use voice for this exact reason. The voice changes every couple of paragraphs, there are high pitched whistles or screams followed by unsettling laughing noises... It's a nightmare room," someone else admitted.
One more person added: "I had that happen to me too mid way through the audio version of a text conversation, I stopped it immediately."

Perhaps we thought we'd seen it all with the AI giant recently reporting that the Advanced Voice Mode would unexpectedly imitate users' voices without their permission. But if this latest glitch is anything to go by, it feels like we’re only scratching the surface of how unsettling things might just get.
