YouTube users notice bizarre change to videos and everyone is asking 'why?'

YouTube has given us a divisive UI change, but not everyone is sold on it

Those YouTube overlords sure love to keep us on our toes, and while some changes are welcome on the video platform, others are hated by users worldwide.

When it comes to UI, YouTube is constantly tweaking things to try and make for a better experience, although chances are most of these changes fly under the radar without you realizing they're even happening.

One YouTube change you might've noticed is the (supposedly) new and improved progress bar, which if you're looking closely, has now got a pink hue to it.

Over on Reddit, baffled fans are asking why YouTube has made this change. While it seems most aren't exactly against the rosy progress bar, many are questioning why it's been introduced at all.

When someone simply asked why, another added: "Change for the sake of change seems to be Youtube's MO."

Another chimed in: "They're updated a bunch of unnecessary things in the studio, like showing you which subs have premium etc."

Someone else mused: "That’s just how big businesses for simple programs operate. They hire a sh*tton of people and once those people have nothing to do, they just start changing stuff. Infuriating."

This change is relatively minor, but in this revamped YouTube, your progress bar will now turn pink when it nears the end of the video. The general consensus seems to be that a pink progress bar is an 'unnecessary' change that doesn't really add anything to our experience.

The pink progress bar shouldn't come as a surprise because earlier this year, YouTube started testing the idea. It started on YouTube Music before being tested on the wider platform, but most seemed to quite like it.

Although we don't know what's changed, the new 'blushing' bar doesn't look like it's as popular as it was a few months ago.

Just when you think you're used to how YouTube works, the team comes and pulls the rug from underneath us.

We can't help but echo the statement of one critic who said: "Everyone is changing their UI every quarter for everything and I'm tired of pretending it's okay."

Someone questioned why we have a tiny change to the color of the progress bar, and yet, we still can't filter watched videos from a channel Go figure.

Sure, we love YouTube giving us former Premium features for free, but when we're still locked out of picture-in-picture videos (unless paying), it feels like the devs could be spending their time in areas other than tweaking the color palette of the progress bar.
