Google's new streaming box is missing one key feature and people are furious

Google fans have taken to social media to share their shock over the missing item

Google has released a new streaming box but it’s missing one key feature and people are furious about it.

The new Google TV Streamer is a 4K TV streaming device which the tech giant says will bring an ‘even faster processor’ and ‘reimagined design’.

The box has more storage than ever before and doubles as a hub for Matter and Google Home, allowing you to connect and control compatible smart home devices on your home network.

However, despite all of these new additions, there is one particular that is missing from the box and fans aren’t too happy about it.

The Google TV Streamer went on sale earlier this week and will set you back $99 but it doesn’t come with a HDMI cable, vital for connecting the box to your TV.

This means that if you don’t already own a cable, you’ll need to buy one in order to use the device.

People were shocked to discover that the box is missing its cable, with many taking to social media to share their reactions.

On Reddit, one user wrote: “I think companies are starting to rely on people having cords too much.”

This prompted a response from someone else who asked: “How am I supposed to get new cords if they don't send me one?”

Another person added: “I think it's stupid because the savings is not passed down to the customers, however, people acting like they don't own an HDMI cable is crazy.”

However, some people saw the benefits of not having a HDMI cable included, with one user writing: “I know this is basically just the manufacturers trying to cut corners, but the plain fact is that this is a good move from an environmental point of view. If you need the cable, you can just buy one. If you don't, then you don't wind up with more electronic waste that you don't need, which never needed to be created in the first place, and won't be clogging the landfills.”

And another suggested: “There should be an option to opt in to getting a new cord when you buy at no extra charge, imo, but the default is not getting one.”

Google isn’t the first company to drop accessories from included items that come with a product.

Earlier this month, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 and while the phone will come with a charging cable, it won’t include a wall plug.
