It turns out that turning off this little-known default TV setting will actually make a huge difference to your viewing experience.

If you’re a sports fan, you may find that your TV displays a game brightly and clearly so it’s easy to follow and this is down to function on your device.

However, the feature, which is known as motion smoothing, is often only useful when watching live sports and actually can worsen your viewing experience of other TV shows and films.

And if you have motion smoothing enabled then it might be making shows appear to be either hyper-realistic or artificial.

So, how do you turn the feature off? It’s different depending on which TV manufacturer you’ve bought from.

Samsung

If you own a Samsung TV then motion smoothing will be known as ‘auto motion plus’.

To disable it, click on the gear button on your remote control and click All Settings. From there, you’ll want to go to Picture, followed by More Picture Settings.

This will give you the option to select Picture Clarity Settings and you’ll find Auto Motion Plus.

LG TV

For LG TVs, the function is referred to as ‘TruMotion’ and to turn it off, you’ll need to press the gear button and hit All Settings.

Amazon Fire TV

However, if you own an Amazon Fire TV then motion smooth is actually called ‘action smoothing’.

If it’s with Sony, the feature will be called Motionflow, for TCL, it’ll be Action Smoothing, and Hisense TV has Motion Enhancement and Motion Clearness.

Roku TV

Things are a bit different for Roku TV owners as you’ll need to open up an app first and then press the asterisk button on your remote control.

From there, click Picture Settings and look for motion smoothing.

Vizio TV

If you have a Vizio TV then motion smoothing will be listed as ‘clear action’. In order to disable the function, click the gear button on your remote control to open up Settings.

From there, hit Picture and then Advanced Picture, and this will open up Clear Action.
