Taylor Swift has spoken out to warn about the dangers of AI after revealing which presidential candidate she’s endorsing.

After facing criticism from fans for her silence, Swift has publicly thrown her weight behind Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

In doing so, the singer posted a statement to her 283 million followers on Instagram, where she said Harris is a ‘steady-handed, gifted leader’, adding that ‘she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them’.

She revealed that she’d watched last night’s debate, adding: “ If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most.

“As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

Swift also talked about the dangers of AI, after an AI-generated deepfake of her endorsing Donald Trump was posted on his website.

The fake image depicted the pop star in a bizarre Uncle Sam cosplay, with the caption, ‘Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump’.

'The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth'

The Republican candidate also shared AI images of supposed fans with shirts that read, ‘Swifties for Trump’.

He shared the images with his own caption that read, ‘I accept!’.

It seems that Trump has managed to annoy Swift enough to break her silence on the upcoming election.

In her statement, she said: “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation.

“It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

She went on to confirm that she would be casting her vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, adding: “I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

Swift signed the statement by adding ‘Childless Cat Lady’ below her name, which seems to be a dig at Trump’s running mate JD Vance, after he claimed that prominent Democrats were ‘a bunch of childless cat ladies’.
