Man claims he's discovered evidence of a ‘nuke town’ near Area 51 after spotting mysterious details on Google Earth

The Reddit user claimed to have found a '1/4 mile crater' while browsing Google Earth.

One Redditor believes they’ve cracked the code on what has gone on in Area 51 after searching up the base on Google Earth.

Area 51 is the name for a highly classified US Air Force military institution located at Groom Lake in Southern Nevada.

Although the average Joe doesn’t know exactly what goes down at the base, it is often the subject of conspiracy theories.

Synonymous with alien invasions, unidentified flying objects and out-of-this-world information, Area 51 runs a tight ship and is completely off-limits to the general public.

Due to its intense security levels, no unauthorised person has ever successfully made it inside its borders.

But that hasn’t stopped social media users from wildly speculating and cultivating conspiracy theories over the years.

One Reddit user believes they know exactly what’s been going down in the desert, and took to the popular r/interestingasf**k thread to have their say.

The man, known by his username @Rip-kid, alleged that’d ‘found a ‘nuke town’ near Area 51 when searching on Google Earth.

Sharing a screenshot of the area, the user posted the image of what they said was a ‘1/4 mile crater’.

In the picture, there also appeared to be the remains of decimated buildings.

Following the discovery, Reddit users have come out in their droves to debate the image.

One wrote: “This is the Nevada National Security Site (FKA as the Nevada Test Site). There are tours available, but you need to sign up months ahead and be a US Citizen.

“Also, there are no cameras or phones allowed. They'll take them out of your possession for the duration of the tour.”

“Well it's not a bad place to test them,” commented another. F*** all around for miles.”

“1st image is just the impact crater where Mjolnir landed when Odin banished Thor and took away his powers,” joked a third.

A fourth said: “Every millenial in the early 2000s found this when Google released uncensored Google Maps in 2005.”

“That’s the Nevada test site,” typed a fifth user. “Those are craters caused mostly by underground explosions, Sometimes if you’re flying over New Mexico, you can spot the Almagordo test site.”

Yucca Flat, also known as the Nevada National Security Site is located just under 70 miles away from Sin City and is the home of 739 nuclear tests.

The location also previously played host to Doom Town - a fake neighbourhood that was constructed to see how a typical American community would react in the event of a nuclear attack.

Two versions of the town were constructed between 1952 and 1955, with mannequins being set up in homes and cars.

These fully-dressed statues were dressed in clothing compromising of different materials and were used so experts could understand how atomic radiation would affect real people.

Following a nuclear explosion, a local newspaper reported that the dummies were laying ‘dead and dying in basements, living rooms, kitchen, bedrooms’.

Following the conclusion of the experiment, the mannequin tribe were moved to the National Atomic Testing Museum.
