Ernest Cline's blockbuster sci-fi film "Ready Player One" was a huge success when it first hit the cinemas.

Now, a collaboration between Warner Bros. and AI is going to bring the OASIS universe of Ready Player One to life in the metaverse.

Can gaming get more immersive?

Readyverse Studios was created and, very soon after, announced by Futureverse, an AI and metaverse technology company, along with the novelist and creator of Ready Player One and the producer of the 2018 film adaptation, Dan Farah.

The company stated: 'Readyverse Studios is laying the groundwork to bring the promise of the open metaverse depicted in Cline’s ‘Ready Player One’ novel and the blockbuster film adaptation into a tangible reality: a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience for mass consumers.'

Co-founded by Shara Senderoff and Aaron McDonald, Futureverse's company vision is to uphold the principles of the open metaverse.

They said: 'The Readyverse will champion the principles of the open metaverse, which are provable digital ownership, community-owned infrastructure, decentralisation, security and interoperability.'

This partnership also includes an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to introduce the Ready Player One franchise to the metaverse across web3.

Moreover, Readyverse Studios will maintain exclusive web3 rights to all future intellectual property created by Cline.

According to Josh Hackbarth, senior VP of franchise development for Warner Bros. Discovery: 'Ready Player One has become a cultural touchstone, inspiring technology innovators, creators and visionaries, and we’re excited to be partnering with Readyverse Studios to introduce these unique characters, immersive environments and more, to the metaverse across web3.'

If you're hoping to escape the real world, the Readyverse is expected to launch in 2024, offering a fully immersive and futuristic open metaverse experience.

There's still a lot we don't know about the newly announced metaverse yet except that it's in the hands of one of the world's largest entertainment companies.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the success of Ready Player One grossed $583 million at the global box office, which goes to show how much the fans would love to see the next level of the movie in the virtual world.

Cline said in a recent statement: 'The future has arrived even more quickly than I imagined.

'With Readyverse Studios, we have the opportunity to leverage the revolutionary technology Futureverse has been building for several years to bring to life the best possible version of the metaverse.

'I’m confident with this team, we have the brightest minds and biggest hearts in place to lead us into the next chapter of our collective future… a future that would make Wade Watts and James Halliday proud.'
