The man who designed the iPhone has revealed a groundbreaking AI device like nothing the world has ever seen and is coming soon.
Former Apple designer Jony Ive has been keeping the details of a new OpenAI product under wraps after news broke that the tech giant was prototyping a device.
This will be the first hardware for the AI company which is led by CEO Sam Altman, with Ive revealing that it could be made available in ‘less than’ two years’ time.

During an appearance at the Emerson Collective’s 2025 Demo Day, Altman shared that the design of the product is ‘simple and beautiful and playful’ before going on to add: “There was an earlier prototype that we were quite excited about, but I did not have any feeling of, ‘I want to pick up that thing and take a bite out of it,’ and then finally we got there all of a sudden.”
While not much is known about the mystery device, it has been said that it is likely to be screen-free and will be around the same size as a smartphone.
During the interview, Ive went on to say: “I love solutions that teeter on appearing almost naive in their simplicity, and I also love incredibly intelligent, sophisticated products that you want to touch, and you feel no intimidation, and you want to use almost carelessly, that you use them almost without thought, that they’re just tools.”
Altman continued: “I hope that when people see it, they say, ‘That’s it!’”

Ive replied: “Yeah, they will.”
In other AI news, ChatGPT users were left divided as a brand-new ‘group chat’ feature was launched on the platform.
The AI bot has some new features brought by OpenAI which will now enable people to start group chats with the AI.
On the firm’s website, it explained: “Today, we’re beginning to pilot a new experience in a few regions that makes it easy for people to collaborate with each other - and with ChatGPT - in the same conversation. With group chats, you can bring friends, family, or coworkers into a shared space to plan, make decisions, or work through ideas together.

“Whether you’re organizing a group dinner or drafting an outline with coworkers, ChatGPT can help. Group chats are separate from your private conversations, and your personal ChatGPT memory is never shared with anyone in the chat.
“Group chats are starting to roll out on mobile and web for logged-in ChatGPT users on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Taiwan. This pilot is a small first step toward shared experiences in ChatGPT, and we expect to learn from early user feedback to inform how we expand to more regions and ChatGPT plans.”
