Platinum trophies have been one of the core parts of gaming on PlayStation for nearly two decades – much to the envy of Xbox fans – yet players on the green side might finally get their own equivalent as a new type of achievement has been spotted.
Referred to as 'Mythic Achievements', this new feature is designed to recognize when players have earned all of the other achievements in any given game with a unique unlock sound and trackable stats to drive you towards completion.
Previously Xbox fans were only incentivized to complete a game's achievement list in order to maximize their overall Gamerscore, with no separate reward for doing what few often achieve.
Many began to fill with excitement with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma suggested that an equivalent to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy would arrive on the platform later this year, and with Mythic Achievements it looks like that's just around the corner.
Will Mythic Achievements be the same as Platinum Trophies?
As reported by The Verge, it appears as if the two forms of completion recognition are in essence the same and different only in name and appearance, which few gamers will be complaining about in reality.

Mythic Achievements were first spotted in a new update for the Xbox app on PC, with current data suggesting that they will be unlocked whenever a player completes all of the other achievements in a given game.

Gamers will also seemingly be able to display their Mythic Achievement count on their profile in a similar way to Platinum displays on PlayStation, which marks a slight departure from the Gamerscore-focused approach to achievements before this.
It's unclear whether they will also provide Gamerscore, or if they'll simply function as an additional reward on top of what the game has already provided, but it'll definitely be the push many players need to get through those last few challenges or finish a game on the hardest difficulty.
When will Mythic Achievements be added?
It's unclear exactly when Mythic Achievements will be added to Xbox consoles and equivalent accounts on PC, but given Sharma's previous assessment and the appearance of files in the recent update, it's safe to assume that it won't be long.
It would make perfect sense for Xbox to have this ready ahead of GTA 6's release, as more players than ever will be flocking to their consoles from November 19 — and giving them an even greater incentive to jump in and keep playing would be wild to pass up.

What some might be wondering if whether Mythic Achievements will be added retroactively for previously released games, or if they'll only be reserved for newly-released titles.
This could rely on individual developers going back and adding them to the achievement list, but it would be something that existing completionists would be desperate to see happen, as they'd end up being rewarded for their past efforts.
