Nothing says happy holidays like a free game.

Just before the weekend, Steam quietly released 12 free PC games from medieval-inspired Exoria to 2D-platformer Dungeon Run in its huge Winter Sale.

Meanwhile, one of Microsoft's most hyped exclusive titles could soon be heading to both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Now, a brand-new free game launched on Steam this weekend has already achieved 100% positive user ratings. If you're a fan of zombie-horror games, this one's for you.

Launched on Saturday (20 December), Operation: Outbreak is a zombie FPS game where you play as a soldier, the sole survivor of a devastating vehicle explosion.

With no surviving squad members, you must navigate the streets of 'Karzekistan' to reach extraction.

However, the city has been overrun by undead zombies, so you rely on the help of your squad’s coordinator to guide you through the infected city.

As the game bio reads on Steam: "Get to the exfil in time or die trying."

Built in Unreal Engine 5 as a student's final examination project, Operation: Outbreak delivers a brief but intense experience lasting around 20–30 minutes.

Your only weapon is a pistol with limited ammo, so you’ll have to be smart about how to tackle each combat scenario. With healing supplies and night vision also in short supply, you’ll need to make every shot count.

Developer Dreadmith Games describes the setting of Operation: Outbreak as 'cinematic and immersive.'

"The environment is cinematic and immersive: derelict buildings, abandoned streets, and flickering lights set the stage for relentless suspense," the bio reads.

Beneath the city, the underground tunnels are 'tight, dark, and suffocating,' heightening the sense of threat as you struggle to see what's lurking beyond arm's reach.

Currently, Operation: Outbreak holds a perfect 100% positive rating in the Steam community, with every player who's tried it seemingly satisfied.

“Just beat the game. A short realistic zombie shooter where you explore an apocolyptic town, bridge and underground facility killing zombies. The game is super fun and has great immersion,” reads one review.

“I really enjoyed this short game - I had a lot of fun with it and did a few runs,” another review states.

A third review read: "Absolutely beautiful game, I wish it was longer. Ammo on hood of truck on the bridge is bugged. I played through several times and had a fantastic time. Thank you."

Operation: Outbreak is available to download now for free on Steam.
