PlayStation confirms major decision that will disappoint PS Plus subscribers

It doesn't look like first-party releases will be coming to PS Plus on the first day anytime soon

PlayStation has confirmed a major decision that will disappoint PS Plus subscribers.

The gaming company has long had a policy of now released its first-party games onto PS Plus on the day of its release, and according to a PlayStation executive, this will continue to be the case.

This is according to an interview that Nick Maguire, who is the vice president of global services at PlayStation, did with Game File.

Maguire said: “We’ve sort of stayed true to our strategy across the board, where we’re not looking to put games in day and date.

“Our strategy of finding four or five independent day-and-date titles - and using that to complement our strategy of bringing games in when they’re 12, 18 months old or older - that balance for us is working really well across the platform.”

This was in response to being questioned whether PlayStation Plus might change its policy to match the likes of Xbox, who add first-party releases to the top tier of the Game Pass service on the first day of its release.

But it looks like this won’t be happening for PlayStation users anytime soon.

This has come as a disappointment to some fans who took to social media to share their reactions to the news.

On Reddit, one user said: “Yeah not only will they not add day one games but they’ll take away their own old games for no apparent reason.”

Another wrote: “I get it but what’s the justification for continuously raising ps+ if all they will do is add 2 year old games.”

A third commented: “Which is why game pass is kicking the s*** out of it. Also, by their logic, Spider-Man 2 should already be on PS+.”

And a fourth person added: “And my policy of not paying more than 100$ for premium will continue. Thank you for your attention in this matter.”

During his interview, Maguire also addressed the PlayStation Classics list, and he revealed that Sony is ‘trying to bring in one [retro game] a month minimum.”

Some other games have been removed from the service, which Maguire explained was because Sony wanted to maintain a balance.

He continued: “We’ve got 80 collections of games across the catalogue, so we want to keep it fresh and bring in new games. Sometimes that means taking a few games out at the same time to keep the proposition interesting and help people find new games as well.”
