In a move that’s taken fans completely by surprise, Grand Theft Auto VI has finally popped up on both the PlayStation and Xbox stores — and the internet is absolutely buzzing.
Admittedly, GTA 6 had already low-key landed on the PlayStation Store a few months ago, but it at last arrived on Xbox’s storefront — the last of the game’s two launch platforms — it feels like the next steps are in motion after the long-awaited second trailer dropped in May.
That late arrival for Xbox makes it easy to wonder whether Sony might have secured some kind of exclusive console marketing rights for the game, but that’s purely speculative at this point. Whether there’s something to it or not, it’s clear this listing has only thrown more fuel on the fire of hype.

Right now, players can wishlist GTA VI on both platforms, which means they’ll be notified the moment pre-orders go live.

While there’s still no official date for that, the existence of store listings usually means things are slowly gearing up behind the scenes.
We additionally assume that’s the case since “PS5” and “Xbox Series X|S” links to each store for wishlisting are on Grand Theft Auto 6’s official website too, signalling Rockstar is ready to have fans keep their eyes peeled for what’s to come from the game next.
Over on Xbox, you can even download a small file — around 300MB — which essentially acts as a placeholder for the full game.
Try to launch it, and all you’ll see is a glimpse of the game’s key art for a few seconds. It’s hardly groundbreaking, but for those itching to have GTA VI show up alongside their current library of games, it’s a nice tease.

Personally, we don’t believe a bit of art makes taking up that amount of space worthwhile, but feel free if you want to keep being reminded of what else is to come whilst you’re exploring your current library of games.
Reactions across social media have been a mix of excitement and cautious optimism.
On Reddit, user ScottRans0m quaintly put: “S**t starting to get real,” wrote Reddit user ScottRans0m.
Meanwhile, OutlandishnessOk6696 added what the type of sentiment many of us are likely thinking: “Makes me believe more that the game won’t get delayed again.”

Predictably, PC players were left feeling a little left out.
On a different thread, for instance, AlexGlezS said: “Cool! Wake me up when I can wishlist PC version”. Amusingly, superEse jokingly replied with “Hey Siri, wake him up in 2028” — jesting at the fact Rockstar yet to confirm a PC edition, many believe it may not launch until as late as 2027, or perhaps even later, considering what a complex technical juggernaut the game is expected to be. .
As for when fans can expect more news, that’s anyone’s guess. Rockstar isn’t exactly known for sticking to predictable schedules, often opting to drop trailers or updates without warning. With the game currently slated for release in 2026, there’s a decent chance we won’t see anything new until later this year.

For now, we’ll have to just take these morsels of news as they come. As we get closer to GTA 6’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release date on May 26, 2026, we’ll expect more updates to become far more frequent and more substantial.
