The truth behind an iPhone rumor that is convincing people to ditch Apple completely has finally been revealed.

This comes as a concept video is doing the rounds on social media which appears to show the device featuring a completely different charging port.

Apple officially stopped its use of the lightning cable back in 2023 with the release of the iPhone 15.

Since then, the tech giant’s phones have included the USB-C port, which is the charging port featured with last year’s drop of the iPhone 17.

However, rumors are now circulating that this could all be about to change.

This is because an AI-generated video of the rumored iPhone 18, which is speculated to be announced later this year, appears to feature a MagSafe port instead of a USB-C.

This has led to much confusion among fans, with many taking to social media to share their own reactions to the clip.

In the TikTok comment section of one video discussing the rumor, one user wrote: “it be frying me when i see that bc why would apple just stop the usbc after 3 phones.”

Another said: “That can’t transmit data, there’s already magsafe, European laws mandate usb c. Couldn’t be more fake.”

A third person commented: “Bro it is just a MacBook charger scaled down.”

And a fourth added: “I didn’t believe it at first but the amount of people that believed it started to make me believe it.”

However, let’s not all panic just yet because the AI video is clearly not an official announcement or leak from Apple and the consensus online is that the clip is a fake.

It is unlikely that Apple will make the switch over to MagSafe charging ports, especially after the European Union (EU) mandated that all smartphones must have a USB-C port.

This is one of the reasons why the tech giant made the move away from its lightning cable initially.

It is expected that news of the iPhone 18 model will become available later in the year, with the new device expected to drop in the autumn, as other iPhone releases have followed this pattern.

The next announcements to come from Apple are expected to happen on March 4 as part of its Apple Experience event in New York, with speculation circulating that the company will unveil new models of iPads, Macbooks and potentially the release of the iPhone 17e.
