One TikToker with millions of followers was hit by her state's unorthodox laws when her current husband's ex-wife launched an unexpected lawsuit, which has now left her needing to pay up $1.75 million.
While they might be morally and ethically dubious, affairs are unfortunately commonplace across the world yet in most places are not subject to any form of legal scrutiny.
You might find yourself on the receiving end of dirty looks and a few broken friendships, but generally a judge won't ever consider action outside of how it might affect any divorce proceedings.
However, one famous TikTok influencer found out the hard way that she lives in one of the only states across the entirety of America that allows people to sue on the basis of infidelity, and it even extends to individuals that have allegedly 'broken up' a marriage.

As reported by Dexerto, Brenay Kennard – known more commonly by her online alias LifeOfBrenay – found herself on the receiving end of a lawsuit back in 2024, as her now-husband Timothy's ex-wife Akira Montague claimed that she had an affair with him prior to their divorce.

Brenay has officially been sued for alienation of affection and criminal conversation, which is a law that dates back to the 1850s, and allows plaintiffs to seek financial compensation in the form of damages for the broken up marriage.
While she wasn't facing any criminal charges and the case remained a civil matter, the jury of the Durham County court case found Kennard liable on both counts, ordering her to pay $1.5 million for the alienation of affection charges and $250,000 for criminal conversation as a result.
Court documents detail Akira Montague's claims that Brenay 'flaunted' her relationship with Timothy while he was still a married man, making content with him on social media, and even posting photos of his children without explicit permission.
She added that Brenay "engaged in behavior designed to seduce," and prosecutors even presented the jury with footage of Brenay allegedly 'twerking' on Timothy in a bathroom.

The man at the center of this case claimed that he never truly loved his now ex-wife, arguing that they were "just like roommates" and that he proposed to her with "the cheapest ring" he could find, but that wasn't enough to sway them in his favor.
Brenay has since limited the comments on her TikTok account, where she has nearly 3 million followers and several videos with over a million views, but there has been a flood of people underneath her Instagram posts, seemingly rubbing in the court result in opposition to infidelity.
