They say that the early bird catches the worm, but when it comes to Jeff Bezos, he refuses to set his first meeting of the day at the crack of dawn.

The former CEO of Amazon definitely has a business head, and being the world's wealthiest person from 2017 to 2021, it's clearly working for him.

You might think this means Bezos is pencilling in his meetings as early as possible, but according to the man himself, he prefers a slightly later start.

10.00am seems to be the magic time for Bezos, and in a resurfaced video, he walks us through his morning routine.

As well as going to bed early and getting up early, Bezos starts the day with a staple cup of coffee, followed by breakfast with his kids and a scan of the newspaper.

Bezos reiterates that his 'puttering time' is important to him, saying it helps him get in the right frame of mind ahead of his 'high IQ meetings' - specifically timing things for when he's had time to get into the swing of the day.

"I like to do my high IG meetings before lunch," says Bezos. "Anything that's going to be really mentally challenging, that's a 10 o'clock meeting and because by 5.00pm, I'm like, 'I can't think about that today, let's try this again tomorrow at 10.00am'."

If you fancy yourself as the next Jeff Bezos, there's also a lucrative window of sleep you need to be getting. Bezos likes to hit that ideal eight hours of sleep, explaining: "I have more energy, my mood is better."

Giving his advice to senior executives, Bezos concludes: "You get paid to make a small number of high-quality decisions. Your job is not to make thousands of decisions every day."

Bezos concludes that you're more likely to make a bad decision if you're 'tired or grouchy,' so maybe we need to take a leaf out of his book.

Not everyone was sold on Bezos' routine, with some saying it's easy to decide your own day when you're the one in charge.

One disgruntled comment read: "Stop looking at a billionaire's daily routine, Look at their routine before they became a billionaire."

Another joked: "I like to putter in the morning to but for for some reason I’m not a billionaire yet 🤷."

Whether you believe in Bezos' methods or not, his business success and bank balance speak for themselves. Eight hours sleep, a restful morning, and a 10.00am meeting sounds pretty good to us - especially if we end up as the next CEO of Amazon.

Next time your boss tries to pencil in that 9.00am meeting on a Monday or tries to get you to stay late for that last-minute Friday huddle, you might want to send them Jeff Bezos' way.
