Fans claim controversial new rule for Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight will give one fighter a significant advantage

We all know he packs a punch

The clock is ticking, and there are mere hours until Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will settle their differences in the boxing ring.

Everyone is talking about "The Problem Child" versus "Iron Mike", and some 19 years after Tyson officially 'retired' from boxing, he's lacing up his gloves to prove he's still got what it takes.

While some have written off Jake Paul before the match has even started, he's got an impressive track record of 10 wins versus one loss (to Tommy Fury) and seven knockouts.

That's some way off Tyson's career of 50 wins to six losses, with a jaw-dropping 44 of them resulting in knockouts.

You don't get the name Iron Mike for nothing, and as one of the most ferocious fighters around, some are rightly worried that Paul will be left sipping his meals through a straw.

Aside from that slap heard around the world, Paul vs Tyson has been grabbing headlines due to some controversial rule changes. The fight's stipulations are so controversial, they've led to bets being banned on 31 out of the 38 states where bets can be made on boxing matches.

Alongside two-minute rounds instead of the usual three-minute bouts, the match will use 14-ounce gloves instead of the standard 10-ounce ones.

Heavier gloves might sound like a more deadly weapon, but in reality, they can put boxers at a disadvantage or advantage.

As noted online, larger gloves could give Paul a larger surface area to counter Tyson's epic punches.

Added to this, heavier gloves tend to cushion blows so protect the puncher's hand, while there are also concerns that the heavier gloves will lead to Tyson tiring more quickly.

On the flip side of this, others are arguing that the shorter rounds are there to help Tyson and stop him tiring.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has explained the change, with communications manager Tela Mange saying: "If two contestants request terms that do not represent a safety issue, and are not in violation of statute and/or rules, then we can agree to regulate the event and ensure those terms are enforced."

Tyson himself has waded into the debate, telling Newsmax's Greta Van Susteren the bigger gloves are for comfort: "Well, you know, most of the gloves that are ten ounces—they don’t fit my hand properly. And the 14-ounce, they don’t fit that well either. But they’re comfortable enough."

Although Tyson has dabbled in boxing matches since his retirement in 2005, his last exhibition fight was a draw against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.

Tyson is currently the underdog in terms of bets, but before you go placing his own, you might want to take a look at the 'leaked' script.

Even though it can't be verified, a supposed script is circulating online and claims that Paul will knock Tyson out in Round 5. With up to 300 million people expected to tune into the big fight, a lot of us will be watching how things go down.
