It turns out that there is a chilling reason why Elon Musk believes that the advancement of AI technology could lead to the outbreak of World War 3.

It could happen as soon as the next five to 10 years, according to the billionaire.

This comes as Musk has warned the public just what the impact of artificial intelligence could have on the world.

In a discussion on his own social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the mogul said that a major world war would be ‘inevitable’.

An original post by another user claimed that countries relying on nuclear weapons to prevent wars has caused governments to become complacent.

In the tweet, it read: “Possibly my bleakest take (that I hope is wrong) is that governments all suck now because nuclear weapons prevent war, or even the credible threat of war, between major powers. So there's no external/evolutionary/market pressure on governments to not suck.”

In response, Musk wrote: “War is inevitable. 5 years, 10 at most.”

This prompted a big response in the comment section, with some aiming their questions at Grok, the AI bot by Musk’s firm, xAI.

In response to a question on why Musk believes a war would be inevitable, Grok pointed towards previous warnings from the tech mogul about global issues.

This includes problems like a potential migration crisis in Europe and growing tensions between countries that could lead to conflict down the line.

The bot wrote: “Elon didn't specify parties or reasons in that post. From his past statements, he's warned of potential civil wars in Europe/UK due to mass migration and identity politics, or global conflicts like the US-China over Taiwan, or Ukraine escalation to WW3, citing rising tensions despite nuclear deterrents.”

However, the real reasoning behind Musk’s statement remains unknown as the billionaire didn’t elaborate further on his thoughts behind it.

Earlier this year, Musk spared concerns about AI after warning that a ‘tsunami of AI’ is coming to humanity.

Speaking at Y Combinator’s AI Startup School, he discussed a number of different subjects including his time in government.

The SpaceX founder said: “Fixing the government is kind of like the beach is dirty, and there’s some needles and feces and like trash and you want to clean up the beach.

“But then there’s also this thousand-foot wall of water which is a tsunami of AI. And how much does cleaning the beach really matter if you’ve got a thousand-foot tsunami about to hit? Not that much. … It’s just so much noise. The signal-to-noise ratio in politics is terrible.”

Speaking about the future of artificial intelligence, Musk continued: “I think we’re quite close to digital superintelligence. If it doesn’t happen this year, next year for sure.”
