Any Nintendo fans in Canada might want to think about making any purchases sooner rather than later, as a new concerning announcement regarding the OG Switch has left many worried for what's to come in the future.
It has been a bit of a complicated year for Nintendo when it comes to pricing.
Between being the first gaming company to breach the $70 ceiling for game prices and the higher launch price of the Switch 2, it's clear that the days of Nintendo being seen as a 'cheaper' option are long gone.
Most notably, the arrival of US President Donald Trump's controversial 'Liberation Day' tariffs also threw a spanner in the works for Nintendo this year, as it forced the company to delay the reveal of a US and Canada price for the new console.

While the Switch 2 did eventually retain the same $449.99 price tag, most of the console's accessories saw an increase of some kind in order to keep up with what the company called 'changing market conditions'.
That reasoning is now also seemingly affecting 40,000,000 people in Canada too, as concerning comments from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa appear to be coming true.
Has Nintendo increased prices again?
As reported by Eurogamer, a new announcement from Nintendo of Canada has hinted towards a price increase for a number of the company's products in the coming months, which appears to include consoles, games, accessories, and more.

An official statement from the console manufacturer has revealed that prices "will change based on market conditions," which appears to primarily be motivated by growing inflation.

There is no indication of how much the price increase will amount to, but the statement indicates that more information will be shared on the official Nintendo store from August 1, 2025, which is also presumed to be the date at which the changes will go live.
Earlier this year Furukawa hinted towards the potential for this to happen, outlining: "We also need to consider the price range that consumers expect for Nintendo products. We think a multifaceted consideration of these factors is needed when deciding the price of a product."

Many saw this as a sign that the (then unannounced) price of the Switch 2 would be significantly higher than it's predecessor - which turned out to be true - but it also appears to have applied to Nintendo's wider product selection.
What Nintendo products are going up in price?
Thankfully the statement has revealed what exactly will be affected by the incoming price changes, so you might want to consider buying any of the following before it goes into effect:
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Physical and digital Nintendo Switch games
- Nintendo Switch accessories
- Nintendo Switch Online memberships
- Amiibo

As you can see that's quite a sizeable portion of what Nintendo offer to its customers, and while a lot of it relates to the previous generation console, much can still be used with the new Switch 2 and therefore will affect gamers who have made the upgrade.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 going up in price too?
Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2, its accessories, and games won't be going up in price with this update. While this is certainly a relief, many users will still be hit by the price hikes in some form, even just if it amounts to buying an Online membership or picking up a new Amiibo.
Additionally, Nintendo's willingness to increase prices of an eight-year-old console suggests that it probably won't be too long until the Switch 2 receives a similar treatment, although that depends on the 'market conditions' that the company places significant stock in.
