Even 13 years after the last Grand Theft Auto released, GTA V is refusing to give up its chokehold on pop culture and beyond. Not just becoming the most profitable video game of all time, GTA V is the most profitable entertainment product ever, having raked in over $10 billion dollars in its lifetime.
Mainly kept alive by the popularity of GTA Online, GTA V's lifespan has seen it traverse a whopping three generations of console.
While all eyes are on the upcoming release of GTA VI and the implication it will leave GTA V's gaming records in the dust, there's plenty of life in this old dog yet. Even as GTA V limps toward the grave, some fans have been trying to celebrate with a Nintendo Switch release.
Is GTA V available on Nintendo Switch?

Much like how Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been buffed and polished to within an inch of its life with various ports and rereleases, you might be questioning what's left in the tank for GTA V. Many are dismayed that the game has never made it to the Nintendo Switch, but with the OG console coming out in 2017 and the Switch 2 releasing in June 2025, Nintendo has had more than enough time to release a mythical port if it was going to.

That hasn't stopped modders from taking things into their own hands, with one known as Mojso planning to defy Rockstar's guidelines and stick a middle finger to the acclaimed developer ahead of GTA VI's upcoming release.
Rockstar recently posted its guidelines on modding, which clearly forbid unofficial ports. In a cocky rant, Mojso posted: "Try me Rockstar IDGAF."
Although Mojso's Discord server was taken down for copyright infringement, they appeared to ignore Rockstar's potential cease-and-desist as they boasted: "Copyright infringement is anything but enforced in Serbia."
Others repeatedly warned Mojso how litigious Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive can be, but undeterred, Mojso continued with the ambitious GTA V Switch port.
Mojso initially went viral in September 2026, showing off a short clip of them flying across the skies of GTA V at a stable 30 frames per second. Nothing too out of the ordinary here, but it's the fact that they were able to prove this version was playing on the Nintendo Switch that led to it grabbing everyone's attention.
This unfortunately landed on Rockstar's radar, and while Mojso initially said it would take more than their Discord being shuttered to deter them, it appears they were then slapped with a cease-and-desist letter.
Despite bragging about their safety in Serbia, Rockstar's legal eagles have done enough to bring the modding project to an end.
GTA V modder thanks Rockstar Games

A lesson has been learned here, with Mojso later posting on X and confirming that Paralympics Productions is shutting down on October 3rd. Thanking everyone who supported the unofficial Switch port, Mojso concluded: "I am sorry for not fulfilling your expectations and leaving you high and dry. I am thankful for take two's mercy so this is the definitive end."
Lamenting the loss of the Switch port, another added: "Damn, was hoping to see the new perf update before the c&d 🥲 Thanks for everything, your switch port is a godsend. Wishing you the best1."
Not everyone was as supportive, as someone else chimed in saying: "That’s what happens when confidence turns into arrogance, karma."
When one person shared an expletive-filled response and claimed Rockstar wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on, the OP reiterated that they likely wouldn't win in court, adding: "They have solid grounds and with me being cocky it shows real intent for 'mayhem' so I can't even appeal to a jury or something like I didn't know what I was getting into."
Another asked Mojso to release the source code so others can do it themselves, but again, they said it would void the cease-and-desist.
Even though it feels like Nintendo and Rockstar are missing out on a license to print money by not bringing GTA V or GTA VI to the Switch, neither is exactly strapped for cash right now.
